The Senior Manager of Major Gifts is a frontline fundraising role focused on growing support for our Washington, DC campus and strengthening relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners. This position works closely with internal staff, board members, and community stakeholders to connect philanthropic investment with the mission and impact of CBOBS. Description Position Summary Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Senior Manager of Major Gifts plays a vital role on the Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School's (CBOBS) advancement team. Specific responsibilities include growing support for our Washington, DC campus by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding corporate, foundation and individual giving prospects in the DC region. This is a frontline fundraising position; the Senior Manager of Major Gifts will strategically match prospective funders with CBOBS funding priorities and oversee the submission of and reporting on all proposals, grants, and budgets. This is not a remote position; the Senior Manager of Major Gifts will be based out of CBOBS' Washington, DC campus, located at THEARC in Ward 8. Salary Description $72,000 – $84,450 Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Build and lead a portfolio with the goal of raising up to $500,000 annually, and scaling to $750,000 and beyond over the next 24 months; Implement and proactively manage a development plan focused on expanding and enhancing corporate, foundation and individual relationships to increase contributed revenue; Support our long-term goal of securing five- and six-figure philanthropic commitments—beginning with a near-term focus on five-figure+ gifts. Build and strengthen relationships by conducting 100+ meetings annually with prospects to explore and cultivate their interest in supporting CBOBS; Draft customized proposals for corporate and foundation opportunities, including strong impact statements, budget, and collateral materials for timely submission; Proactively advance prospects and donors through the moves management cycle, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, resulting in secured gifts and annual goal attainment; Implement a dynamic stewardship plan and ensure outreach and stewardship metrics are recorded appropriately and in a timely fashion for each account utilizing Salesforce; Collaborate with the Baltimore based staff and engage board members to create unique Washington, DC based engagement events for the community. Reporting & Communication: Generate monthly and quarterly revenue projections and forecasts using Salesforce; Collaborate with internal stakeholders to report on restricted gift deliverables; Proactively input prospect data and relevant donor information into Salesforce; and Coordinate the creation of donor reports with internal staff. Requirements Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution plus 3-5 years of front-line fundraising experience. Proven experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents to support their philanthropic goals. Proficiency in using MS Office suite and CRM database experience is required. Familiarity with Salesforce is strongly preferred. Familiarity with and excitement for the Washington, DC philanthropic community preferred. Excellent project management skills, initiative, and discretion to achieve moves management objectives in donor outreach, in-person visits, solicitations, closures, and stewardship. Entrepreneurial spirit, self-motivated, disciplined, and able to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment. Capable of and confident in representing CBOBS’ mission, vision, and impact energetically to alumni, donors, board members, staff, and other stakeholders. Moderate regional travel required, including periodic attendance at Baltimore meetings and events. Occasional evening/weekend work activity. Employer contribution of 70% for Medical, Dental, & Vision insurance for the employee and their children, if applicable. Fifteen (15) days of Paid Time Off (PTO) which accrues per pay period. Up to twelve (12) weeks of paid Family/Medical leave. Thirteen (13) paid holidays. 401(k) retirement plan with a match. Employees are eligible for participation after 6 months of employment. The current match is 3% of the employee’s salary. Long-term disability, short-term disability, and a $25,000 life insurance policy at no cost to the employee.
