Job Title Engineer, Engineering Strategy & Operations Overview This role plays a pivotal part in advancing small modular reactor development projects by proactively identifying and removing obstacles to ensure consistent progress toward key milestones. The position requires exceptional cross‑functional coordination skills and the ability to influence without direct authority to drive initiatives forward. The role synthesizes complex technical information from across the organization to enable timely executive decision‑making while upholding the highest standards of nuclear safety and quality. Responsibilities Identify, track, and proactively remove roadblocks across HTGR reactor development projects to maintain progress against critical timelines. Apply knowledge of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA‑1, ASME Section III & VIII, ISO 9001, NEI 18‑04, and 10 CFR 21, along with familiarity with NRC regulations, codes, and standards. Interpret engineering documentation, regulatory requirements, and quality records. Conduct root cause analysis, defect trending, corrective action programs, and continuous improvement initiatives. Develop, implement, and maintain quality processes, procedures, and documentation within the quality management system. Prioritize work in fast‑paced, multi‑project environments using strong organizational, documentation, and time‑management skills. Demonstrate leadership through mentoring, training, audits, surveillances, and supplier evaluations. Support nuclear facilities or nuclear power plant construction activities (preferred). Coordinate with technical leads, engineering, procurement, and regulatory stakeholders to resolve cross‑functional challenges. Consolidate and distill complex technical information into concise, actionable intelligence for executive leadership. Establish effective communication channels between technical teams to align priorities and resources. Lead cross‑functional initiatives through influence and relationship‑building rather than direct authority. Create and maintain project documentation, decision matrices, and status reports. Support change management processes when project scope or requirements evolve. Develop and track performance metrics to measure project health and progress. Anticipate potential obstacles before they impact schedules and develop contingency plans. Maintain a professional demeanor and communication style at all times. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline (preferably mechanical, chemical, or related). Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience for Level III roles; 10 years for Level IV roles can be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience in engineering project environments. Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives without direct authority. Experience with project management methodologies and associated tools. Strong technical aptitude and regulatory knowledge as listed in responsibilities. Location 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD Work Site Expectations 4–5 days in office; up to 10% travel as needed for project assignments. Hours Standard office hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday. Compensation Salary ranges are based on Maryland and applicable state law and depend on job level: Level III: $107,495 – $179,159 per year Level IV: $119,820 – $199,700 per year Benefits Robust benefits package including a 401(k) plan with employer match, medical/dental/vision insurance, life and disability insurance, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement for continuing education.
