About the Position

Job Title

Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU / IMC / Stepdown)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | 3x12-hour shifts | 36 hours per week | 13-week assignment

Key Responsibilities

• Provide intermediate-level nursing care in a pod-format PCU setting with a 1:4 RN-to-patient ratio, managing patients of varying acuity comparable to ICU-level care at smaller facilities
• Care for patients with acute neurological conditions including stroke (ischemic, hemorrhagic, SAH), post-neurosurgical recovery (craniotomy, ventriculostomy, complex neuro-spine), seizure disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, and Guillain-Barré syndrome
• Perform and assist with specialized procedures including NIHSS assessments, lumbar puncture assistance, lumbar drain management, arterial line and central line care, and tracheotomy patient management
• Initiate and maintain various intravenous drips including cardiac, insulin, and heparin infusions
• Perform IV starts, peripheral lab draws, and arterial blood draws
• Read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips and provide continuous cardiac monitoring

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact State license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
• Must reside outside an 80-mile radius of the facility
• Must successfully pass required Relias competency exams prior to start (two attempts allowed; failure on the second attempt will result in pre-start cancellation)
• All requested time off must be submitted prior to assignment confirmation; no blocked scheduling permitted

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience in a PCU, IMC, stepdown, or high-acuity neurological nursing environment
• Familiarity with NIHSS scoring, lumbar drain management, and post-neurosurgical patient care
• Experience managing complex IV drip protocols in an intermediate or critical care setting
