Keep the general ledger accurate for a $184 million city budget and help produce the annual financial report. You will post journal entries, reconcile accounts monthly, track grants and capital projects, and prepare schedules for the external auditors. This is a fictional posting for the demonstration site. You will join a team of three accountants, a payroll specialist, and two accounts payable technicians under the assistant finance director. Finance & Budget has earned the fictional state award for excellence in financial reporting for 11 straight years, and the team intends to keep the streak alive. What you will do Through the month an accountant will: Prepare and post journal entries and month-end closing entries for governmental and utility funds. Reconcile bank, investment, and sub-ledger accounts monthly and resolve differences. Track grant revenue and expenses, prepare reimbursement requests, and keep grant files audit-ready. Maintain the capital asset ledger, including additions, disposals, and depreciation. Prepare audit schedules and notes for the annual financial report and respond to auditor requests. Help departments read their budget reports and research variances during budget season. What you bring You are a fit for this role if you have: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Two years of accounting experience; governmental or fund accounting experience is preferred. Strong spreadsheet skills and experience with an enterprise accounting system. A certified public accountant or certified government finance officer credential, which is a plus and earns the top of the range.
