24601 North 29th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85027 Posting Details: Salary: $45,621.00 - $54,975.00 Grade: CO2 Closing Date: 09/04/2026 Job Summary: *** OPEN TO CURRENT ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, REHABILITATION & REENTRY EMPLOYEES ONLY *** Employees must currently be a Correctional Officer II with the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry. SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S)-THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED: Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION – Must receive a rating of meets expectations or better. VOLUNTARY DEMOTIONS – Employees accepting a voluntary demotion shall be required to remain in the classification/position requested for a period of at least one year before being considered for appointment to any other position. Voluntary demotion applicants must have an approved voluntary demotion memo on file with Central Promotional Register to be considered for a job offer. No job offers will be made without an approved voluntary demotion. The job offer will be made to the next available candidate. DEMOTIONS (DISCIPLINARY) – Any employee who has been demoted one level shall be ineligible to apply for a promotional opportunity for two years from the date of the demotion. If demoted to more than one level, the employee shall be ineligible to apply for a promotional opportunity for three years from the date of the demotion. A demotion received after the promotional process has started and prior to promotion shall result in the permanent removal from that CPR. Once removed from a CPR for a demotion, the applicant shall not be eligible to compete for a Correctional Officer Series position until two or three years, depending on the number of levels demoted, after the date of the demotion. The first day served of the demotion shall be considered the effective date of the demotion. You MUST maintain the above additional requirements to remain in the recruitment process. Job Duties: The Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry has embarked on a vision of REIMAGINING CORRECTIONS through four overarching and mission-centered goals: Build a meaningful Organizational Culture and Promote the Development of Team Create and Implement Optimal Population Management and Progression Strategies Deploy Quality Delivery of Services and Continuity of Care in Facilities and Communities Achieve Modernization and Sustainability of Practices and Resources Primary Responsibilities: Ensure facility security — Provide security for offender clients, community partners, staff, and all individuals on-site. Supervise assigned clients — Provide guidance, structure, and accountability within the Reentry Center. Conduct searches — Perform thorough searches of personnel and property in accordance with Department policy and facility procedures. De‑escalate situations — Apply effective communication and conflict‑reduction techniques. Complete reports accurately — Initiate and finalize documentation promptly and with attention to detail. Fulfill post duties — Carry out all assigned responsibilities with diligence and consistency. Respond to emergencies — Act quickly and appropriately during urgent or critical incidents. Work independently — Operate effectively in small work groups with limited direct supervision Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of: Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing security, order, discipline and due process of inmates; methods, techniques and practices of security procedures, order and discipline as applied to inmates; portable and stationary, two-way radio systems used to communicate inside an institution or the network with other institutions; inmates' vernacular (language) used; methods, techniques and practices of the paraprofessional counseling for inmates; use of self-defense and use of weapons and related defense and control equipment; policies and procedures of a correctional work setting. Skill/Ability to: applying Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the duties; establishing and maintaining prescribed security, order and discipline measures; using the radio systems and communication codes; understanding the inmates' vernacular (language); self-defense and use of weapons and other defense and control equipment; paraprofessional counseling and crisis interventions with inmates; basic first aid measures, and use of devices for self-protection from serious health disorders; verbal and written communications as required by the duties and assignments in a correctional setting; interpersonal relationships within a correctional setting; maintaining a calm and even temperament during emergency situations; work all shifts and posts; maintain a current and valid Arizona driver’s license; and maintain a safe driving record. Experience and Education: Typical ways to obtain the KSAs would be: Graduation from a Correctional Officers Training Academy (COTA). Any combination of training and experience that meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) may be substituted. Special Selection Factors: Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination and pre-employment drug screening and undergo a background investigation prior to appointment. A current Arizona driver’s license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment. The probationary period lasts twelve (12) months. Selective Preference(s): Not Applicable Pre-Employment Requirements: In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter. Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination, pre-employment drug screening, and a background investigation prior to appointment. A current Arizona driver's license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment. As a condition of continued employment, employees in a safety sensitive position may be subject to random drug testing, as required by Department Policy. Selected candidates must successfully complete Correctional Officer Training Academy (COTA). If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
