CoWorx is seeking a Cost Estimator in the Chelmsford, MA area! The Cost Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost proposals in response to customer RFQs (Requests for Quotation). This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams—including Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Sales—to ensure competitive pricing and support the company's short- and long-term growth objectives. This position requires strong analytical skills and judgment to evaluate multiple factors impacting cost. The Cost Estimator works on complex projects and may lead others by assigning tasks and resolving issues within broadly defined practices and policies.

Responsibilities:

• Review customer RFQs to ensure completeness of information (statement of work, quantities, special instructions).
• Develop cost estimates by analyzing Bills of Material (BOM), labor requirements, and non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs.
• Coordinate peer reviews with Manufacturing Engineering for accuracy and feasibility.
• Submit costed BOMs for approval and maintain pricing integrity.
• Compare estimated costs to actual historical costs to improve accuracy and profitability.
• Prepare and maintain cost data in QFX and other internal systems.
• Collaborate with Supplier Quality Engineers to evaluate and quote new suppliers, validate pricing, and establish strategic partnerships.
• Generate pricing proposals using established labor rates, material costs, and overhead factors.
• Provide periodic win/loss analysis and metrics reporting to management.
• Communicate with customers to clarify requirements and request additional documentation as needed.
• Maintain commodity lists for critical parts impacting cost and delivery.
• Support engineering teams with training on QFX templates, formatting, and Excel best practices.
• Prepare monthly activity reports and ensure compliance with internal processes, including PIDs and paperless initiatives.
• Adhere to company and OSHA safety guidelines at all times.

Desired Background/Skills:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in electronic manufacturing or related industry.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and specifications.
• Strong understanding of assemblies such as backplanes, CCA's, cables/harnesses, and box-builds.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Analytical ability to interpret customer requirements and develop cost proposals that optimize profitability.
• Familiarity with cost estimating software and ERP systems.
• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
• Experience in supplier negotiations and cost reduction strategies.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.
• Prolonged sitting and attention to detail.
• Basic math skills and computer proficiency.
