Position Summary

This is a full-time, in-office role based in Scottsdale, AZ. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in the accounting, tracking, and reporting of Walton’s land investment portfolio, with a focus on land exits, deferred payments, and investor distributions. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records and balance sheet schedules, recording and reviewing land sale and distribution activity, and ensuring transactions are supported, reconciled, and completed timely.

This position is intended for a more experienced accountant who can take ownership of recurring processes, identify and resolve variances, coordinate across departments, and support improvements to controls, documentation, and workflow. The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger and reconciliation experience, advanced Excel skills, sound accounting judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders across the organization.

• Prepare and post journal entries and cash transactions related to land assets, exits, deferred payments, and investor distributions.
• Maintain detailed balance sheet schedules related to land assets, investor distributions, deferred payments, and other assigned accounts.
• Track current land holdings and upcoming land activity.
• Record land sale transactions and prepare investor distribution calculations.
• Manage deferred payment schedules across multiple systems and ensure data accuracy, coordinating with external companies as needed.
• Coordinate with Operations, Real Estate, IT, Legal, and other departments to gather information and to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow across the global team.
• Perform account reconciliations, research variances, and prepare corrections as needed.
• Own assigned month-end close tasks.
• Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations for assigned areas.
• Serve as a primary point of contact regarding accounting-related exit and distribution questions.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements for workflow efficiency and accuracy.
• Assist with training, review, or guidance for less experienced team members as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Minimum of four (4) years of corporate Accounting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance is required.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Attention to detail in managing large volumes of transactions.
• Ability to analyze financial information and provide recommendations that support business decisions.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in the real estate industry is a plus.
