Head Custodian Position

This Head Custodian position will be responsible for Whitefield Elementary School. Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, basic computer skills, excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Experience in custodial cleaning, grounds keeping, and general maintenance is also required. Desired qualifications include the ability to work independently and as a member of a team, and the ability to maintain effective and appropriate relationships with students, parents, and all RSU staff. The position reports to the Director of Operations and/or School Principal. The job goal is to provide a clean and safe building for all students, staff, and the community, and to implement and maintain the effective operations of the physical plant. Professional responsibilities include ensuring that the school is properly cleaned and sanitized, maintaining and safeguarding an inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment, and ensuring that work activities comply with federal, state, and local safety and health regulations. The Head Custodian also meets with the Director of Operations or Superintendent to report emergency maintenance needs or concerns and to plan projects, oversees service calls, prepares written work schedules, reports, and recommendations, ensures the safety, health, and comfort of students and staff, practices and monitors for safe work methods, and performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Clerical duties include maintaining timely and accurate records and completing and retaining all required reports. Legal and ethical duties include maintaining confidentiality about all aspects of student educational and personal life, demonstrating respect for the legal and human rights of students, staff, parents, School Board, and other community members, following health and safety procedures established by the School Department, arriving and departing punctually, and demonstrating dependability, integrity, and other ethical standards. Essential functions include the ability to read, write, reason, and understand policies and procedures and related information and to follow verbal, written, or demonstrated instructions, and the physical ability to perform all necessary duties and responsibilities.
