Licensing Requirements: Illinois Department of Professional Regulation Registered Professional Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse License and Healthcare Provider AED/CPR Certification

Essential Functions

• Provides direct professional nursing services to students which include but may not be limited to naso-tracheo suctioning, tracheotomy care, gastric tube care and feedings, urinary tract catheterization, and medication administration.
• Implements health care and emergency health plans.
• Assists in the preparation and delivery of the education program for students under the supervision of, and as directed by the assigned staff member(s).
• Assists in the direct supervision of students under the supervision, of and as directed by, the assigned staff member(s) as necessary and directed.
• Maintains medical equipment and supplies as appropriate.
• Assists with self-help (i.e. feeding, life skills, personal hygiene activities, diapering, toileting) and other health related services for the purpose of providing necessary supports.
• Demonstrates cooperation, openness for growth and willingness to contribute to a team approach to the educational program.
• Participates in meetings, training programs and in-service sessions as required.
• Communicates effectively with school nurse, teacher(s), and family/guardian regarding health information as necessary.
• Documents pertinent health information and facilitates accommodations as required to meet the medical needs of the student(s).
• Supplements the work of the assigned staff member(s) including, but not limited to, all required paperwork, organization of classroom, and supervision and support of students.
• Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
