Senior Network EngineerThe Senior Network Engineer is a technical specialist role in the Network administration area supporting local and wide area networks in a multi platform, protocol, and operating system environment.Major ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Director of Network and Telecom, provides third level support to end usersPlans, procures, installs and maintains local and wide area networks in a multi protocol environmentReviews products and recommends acquisition or modification of hardware, software or contract servicesMonitors network functions and evaluates operations and network performanceInvolved in the implementation and maintenance of major subsystemsAcknowledge and resolve user service requests utilizing the service request management systemFrequently contributes to the development of new theories and methodsDevelops resolutions to complex problems that require frequent use of creativity uses judgement within defined policiesContributes to the development of organizational goals and objectivesRepresents the organization as the principle customer contact.Often performs project leadership dutiesPerforms other duties and responsibilities as requiredRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Management Systems, or equivalent7+ years of related work experience including project managementExcellent oral and written communication skillsValid driver's license and dependable transportation.Desired QualificationsKnowledge of implementation and troubleshooting of Layer 2-3 switching technologies vendor products from Cisco Systems well as Checkpoint firewall configuration and setupKnowledge of Cisco wireless, ISE and PrimeExperience with implementing and supporting wireless infrastructures from large Enterprise vendors utilizing Cisco Systems equipmentGood understanding of best practice Data Center network supportExpert level knowledge of routing protocols to include OSPF, and BGP with an overall understanding of routing concepts / designWorking knowledge of F5 load balancer configuration and management with interaction of DNS componentsExperience with the implementation and configuration of Enterprise class firewalls from Checkpoint Technologies. Understand firewall integration, rule creation, and safeguard policy configurationDemonstrate a clear understanding and expertise for deployment of networking technologies in a virtualized environment and be able to present these concepts in conjunction with the University's Networking teamWorking knowledge and use of network troubleshooting tools to solve complex network problems from Solarwinds Orion and Riverbed's Application Performance Management systemsWorking knowledge of Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switching platformsWorking knowledge of Brocade Extension switchesCISCO CCNP, CheckPoint CCSA
