Veterinarian

Summary ASPCA Poison Control Center (APC) provides 24/7 animal poison consultation. The Consulting Veterinarian in Clinical Toxicology (CVCT) will manage and consult on toxicology cases, collaborate with veterinarians, owners, and support staff, and support training and education initiatives. Location and Schedule Regional remote position within 350‑mile radius of Champaign, IL. Will be available for travel as needed. Late evening/night schedule, possibly full overnight shifts (10:00p‑m–6:00a‑m) and partial shifts. Flexibility required for nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Compensation Base salary range: Zone1 $101,000–110,000; Zone2 $110,000–120,000. Additional pay may include shift differential, per diem, or spot bonus. Responsibilities Professionally manage medical and toxicology cases received via phone, email, or other electronic means. Obtain complete case histories and provide diagnostic and treatment recommendations according to APC protocols. Enter all consultation details into the electronic record with sufficient precision. Collect payments as needed. Develop risk assessments and differential diagnoses, and advise when the presumed agent may be incorrect. Provide up‑to‑date treatment recommendations, assist with critical care procedures, and interpret laboratory results. Consult with on‑site and off‑site experts on complex cases. Advise support staff on case management and maintain quality of records. Implement quality feedback from QA Team, Toxicology Protocol Team, and direct manager. Meet efficiency, call volume, and quality goals; may be assigned additional duties. Participate in training, protocol development, publishing, blogging, and mentorship. Qualifications Licensed veterinarian (DVM or VMD) in the state of residence. Must obtain Illinois veterinary license within one year of hire. Solid understanding of veterinary clinical medicine with a strong interest in toxicology. 1year of clinical experience; emergency facility work and veterinary internship experience preferred. Strong communication, problem‑solving, and customer‑service skills. Ability to handle emergency or challenging situations calmly and professionally. Proficiency in math, dosage calculations, and multitasking with multiple databases. Excellent written and verbal communication; English required, Spanish a plus.
