CONTRACT CALL DEFINITION: In LCMC we know that not every pastor called to serve a congregation has all the education needed to qualify for a “certified call”. As a result, from the beginning of our association we established another expression of pastoral call: the contract call. Many of our congregations find great pastors who are a good fit with a specific congregation, and are carrying out the pastoral duties for that body of Christ, but that pastor has not yet completed the educational requirements for a Master’s of Divinity, or its equivalent. COMPENSATION To be determined by the Church Council as stated in the By-Laws. QUALIFICATIONS: The contract call is a call to be a pastor of a congregation…fully authorized by the congregation to fill the pastoral office, issuing a “letter of call”. When this occurs we expect the following to be understood: The pastor will seek to continue his/her education. The pastor will seek out a “mentor” relationship with an LCMC pastor who has completed a Master’s of Divinity. The pastor will carry out the practices of Lutheran pastoral ministry by baptizing infants and adults; and will proclaim the real presence of Jesus in, with and under the bread and wine of Holy Communion. PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Pastor shall connect with the Lord in regular personal worship and praise. He/she shall give himself/herself to the ministry of the Word and prayer and seek to walk uprightly before the Lord in his/her personal life. He/she shall seek the mind of God. The Pastor shall be the teaching shepherd of the ministry. He/she shall give considerable time to the study of the Word and shall teach the Scriptures to the others by proclamation and example. His/her purpose shall be to feed the flock, equip the saints for ministry, guard the Church against the attack of the enemy, conduct worship and share the good news of Jesus Christ. He/she shall seek to increase the level of discipleship in the Church. RESPONSIBLE TO: The Pastor shall be responsible to the congregation and directly to the Church Council. The Senior Pastor (leader) shall serve as a voting member of the Church Council with exception of wage or salary decisions. JOB DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Weekly coordination of church service and related ministries / activities. Active support of Community Outreach programs. Leadership role for Huddle and Bible Study activities. Provide input for annual budget and effective budget management. Encourage and lead other congregational members to participate with church in-house and outreach activities. Develop and lead new member classes. Provide spiritual leadership through weekly church service, pastoral care and community involvement. #J-18808-Ljbffr
