Equipment Operator-Streets

Position Summary:
The incumbent is involved in the operation of light equipment used in the operation, maintenance and repair of streets, drainage, sidewalks and right-of-way.

This is a skilled position involving the operation of power equipment. The incumbent operates lawn mowers, ditch diggers, tractor with mower, weed eaters as well as other hand tools. Performs routine maintenance lubrication etc. on the above equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- The incumbent is responsible for all work involving the use of light and heavy equipment in support of work operations, as well as the maintenance, cleanliness, and fueling of all assigned vehicles and equipment. Equipment will be maintained in accordance with manufacturers' instructions and Superintendents' instructions. Incumbent is also responsible for reporting any problems with his equipment and vehicles to his superintendent. Incumbent performs such additional duties as may be assigned to him by the Street Superintendent.

Education and Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or GED
Valid Florida Class "8" COL license.
Experience in Light or Heavy equipment operation preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Incumbent must be skilled in operation of the various pieces of light equipment.
- Ability to comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Ability to perform without close supervision
- The incumbent must have a HS or GED education or at minimum & demonstrate an ability to read and write and perform basic math problems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with customers and coworkers
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Mechanical ability to troubleshoot causes of mechanical failure and determine appropriate corrective action
- Knowledge of OSHA standards for industrial environment
