Description:

The Security Officer provides a visible, proactive security presence on campus, helping deter crime, support school rules, and maintain a safe and orderly environment for students, faculty, staff, families, guests, and visitors. This position assists the school community by monitoring campus activity, responding to concerns, reporting issues, and helping ensure that campus facilities and grounds remain secure.

Schedule:

·  Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday

·  6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

·  Additional hours may be required for special events, holiday coverage, vacation coverage, or other campus needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·  Maintain a high-visibility presence across campus and practice the “detect, deter, observe, and report” methodology.

·  Conduct regular campus rounds on foot and by vehicle at varying intervals throughout each shift.

·  Check buildings, doors, windows, lights, and other areas to help ensure facilities are secure.

·  Identify and report safety or maintenance concerns, including broken windows, water leaks, lighting issues, unsecured doors, or other irregularities.

·  Monitor student activities and help ensure students are in authorized areas and following school expectations and the code of conduct.

·  Observe campus activity involving students, guests, visitors, and members of the surrounding community.

·  Respond to minor emergencies and assist with serious emergencies in accordance with the WMA Crisis Response Manual.

·  Report incidents to the appropriate administrator and emergency services as needed, using Reach Boarding, SchoolDude, Gmail, and other designated communication tools.

·  During colder months, check heating systems in buildings to help ensure they are functioning properly.

·  Provide security and traffic control support for special school events and functions.

·  Assist guests, faculty, staff, families, and students in a professional and courteous manner.

Residential Life Expectations:

·  If living on campus, faculty are asked to provide one night per week and one weekend per month of dorm supervision.

·  If living off campus, there are no residential life responsibilities.

·  Participation in the Afternoon Program as an activity leader or coach is not required.

Qualifications and Requirements:

·  High school diploma or GED required.

·  CPR certification required.

·  Valid Massachusetts operator’s license required.

·  Associate degree in Administration of Justice, equivalent training, or prior law enforcement experience preferred.

·  Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

·  Ability to work overnight hours in a variety of weather conditions.

·  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with faculty, administration, students, families, guests, and visitors.

·  Strong communication skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations.

·  Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, WMA safety procedures, reporting systems, and the Crisis Response Manual.

Physical Demands:

This position requires walking and patrolling for extended periods, as well as sitting or standing as needed. Common physical demands include stooping, bending, reaching, walking, and standing for extended periods. The Security Officer must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and may occasionally need to use physical strength when responding to safety or security situations. The role also requires dexterity for office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, and printers.
