Churchill County is looking for a personable, highly-motivated, and energetic person to work as a part-time Office Assistant (Receptionist) for the William N. Pennington Life Center. The Office Assistant serves as the first point of contact at the Life Center, greeting members of the public as they enter the building and answering the phone, all accomplished in a professional and friendly manner. The position also provides administrative support to Life Center operations, including utilizing word processing and spreadsheet software to prepare and edit documents. This is a part-time position with working hours of Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 12:30pm. This is a part-time, regular position which receives prorated annual and sick leave. The position qualifies for the PERS retirement.

The Life Center and the Social Services Department are committed to maintaining a cross-functional team environment. Members of the team are expected to provide support and assistance to other members and may be required to perform duties outside their regular assignments.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High School diploma/GED; AND one (1) year of administrative support experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Previous experience as a receptionist, including working with a high-volume of clients from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds is highly desirable. Experience working with senior populations is a plus. Bilingual ability in Spanish/English is a plus.

Knowledge of: Policies and procedures of the department to which assigned. Use of specified computer applications involving word processing, data entry and/or standard report generation. Business arithmetic. Applicable regulations, policies and statutes. Office administrative practices and procedures. Business letter writing and the standard format for typed materials. Record keeping principles and practices. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Techniques for dealing with the public, in person and over the telephone.

Skill in: Performing administrative support work in assigned of areas/disciplines. Reading and explaining rules, policies and procedures. Analyzing and resolving varied office administrative problems. Organizing, maintaining and researching office files. Compiling and summarizing information and preparing periodic or special reports. Organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or department goals, objectives and activities. Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with staff, coworkers, and the public.
