Overview Boston Public Schools seeks a Vocational Tech [Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing] Teacher who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. Reports to: Principal/Head of School Responsibilities Provide a vocational technical course of study aligned to state curriculum frameworks and meeting the learning needs of students while maintaining a safe learning environment. Align with vocational technical skills and content in the school's curriculum map to achieve equitable student outcomes. Earn and/or maintain all required licensure. Core Competencies Using the Rubric of Effective Teaching, priority skills and abilities identified for BPS teachers: Accountability for Student Achievement Sets ambitious learning goals for all students, creates cognitively demanding tasks, and models the belief that all students can master challenging material through effort Assesses students’ understanding regularly with ambitious goals and makes necessary instructional adjustments Passionate about students, content, and the teaching profession Communicating Content Knowledge Demonstrates mastery of the content area and pedagogy; connects to real-world settings and standards; conveys content creatively and engagingly Equitable & Effective Instruction Scaffolds and differentiates instruction to support all students in complex thinking Engages and motivates all students; fosters equitable participation Builds a productive learning environment where every student participates and is valued Cultural Proficiency Respects differences and maintains a respectful environment Parent/Family Engagement Engages with families to build collaborative relationships in service of student learning Professional Reflection & Collaboration Regularly reflects on practice, seeks feedback, and engages in continuous learning; contributes to a collaborative professional community Qualifications - Required Education: High school diploma or the equivalent Employment experience: 5 years of full-time experience directly related to the field Licensure/Certification: ASE certification in at least three areas of automotive technology Massachusetts Vocational Tech Teaching License in the appropriate subject (9-14) or ability to earn by passing the subject exams and a MTEL literacy option Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement or ability to obtain Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by Boston Public Schools Current authorization to work in the United States by start date Qualifications - Preferred Experience teaching in urban schools and/or an industry setting OSHA-10 certification or willingness to earn it Industry-recognized credentials aligned with curriculum and ability to train students to earn those credentials Valuing linguistic diversity; bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged, with preferred languages including Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali Core content certification in related subject area and, if applicable, certifications in Moderate Disabilities or English as a Second Language Terms BTU, Group I. Salaries are listed by unions and grade/step. Start and end times of schools vary; some schools have extended days under the Schedule A ELT agreement.
