Spacecraft Propulsion Technician

Responsibilities Assemble and integrate spacecraft propulsion components such as tanks, propellant lines, valves, regulators, thrusters, brackets, heater circuits, and sensors. Perform precision tube and line fabrication and installation—including layout, bend, fit, flare, and square operations—as per engineering drawings and specifications. Execute propellant line welding using an orbital welder at bench and system levels in both laboratory and spacecraft environments. Conduct propulsion system leak checks and functional testing, including valve cycling, regulator set‑points, instrument checks, pressure testing, proof/burst support activities, and purge operations. Support In‑house and Launch Base Initial/Final Reference Performance Tests (IRPT & FRPT). Assist hazardous operations with strict safety discipline involving compressed gases, pressure systems, chemical propulsion, and hypergolic propellant at the launch base. Operate standard laboratory and shop equipment such as torque tools, pressure transducers, and vacuum pumps. Troubleshoot build and test issues in collaboration with engineering and quality teams, performing rework as approved. Minimum Requirements U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency. At least four years of hands‑on experience in propulsion, hydraulics, pneumatics, or related fields. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and written work instructions. Capability to wear Self‑Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) suits for hazardous material handling at the launch base. Willingness to travel up to three times per year for about three weeks per trip. Availability to participate in weekend and off‑shift crews to meet critical schedules when overtime is required. Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs. (with assistance or tools as needed), stand for extended periods, and work in confined spacecraft volumes. Ability to work on ladders, platforms, and man lifts up to 18 feet high. Capacity to support off‑shift operations during critical integration and test campaigns. Preferred Qualifications Experience working collaboratively in a team environment. Familiarity with hazardous operations, including compressed gases, pressure systems, chemical propulsion, and hypergolic propellant at the launch base. Proficiency with laboratory and shop equipment such as torque tools, pressure transducers, and vacuum pumps. Strong troubleshooting skills with engineering and quality teams and the ability to perform rework per approved procedures. Experience with epoxy/adhesive bonding, safety wire, and precision torque practices. Comfortable working in cleanroom environments and adherence to strict process controls and documentation. Detail‑oriented with a strong safety awareness mindset. Salary Base pay for this position in California ranges from $27.60 to $46.00 per hour. For other states, geographic labor cost adjustments determine the applicable range.
