Manager Trainee – Supply Chain – Cambridge, Maryland, United States Overview Under general supervision, this role involves learning the management of a small driver count and/or non‑traditional shifts (including nights and weekends), ensuring safe and timely freight movement, load assignment, and providing best‑in‑class customer service. Training covers DOT compliance, driver and company regulation management, and coordination with internal and external contacts for accurate planning and routing of freight and loads. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive relationships with drivers and carriers to ensure seamless carrier set‑up, minimize turnover, and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and contribute to special projects that optimize fleet operations and profitability. Utilize personnel management skills including driver training, orientation, and assistance with internal and third‑party systems. Proactively maximize fleet efficiency and profitability, recommending continuous improvements, measuring key performance indicators, and presenting customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, Net‑Revenue budgeting, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, Pay‑L issue resolution, P&L analysis, invoicing, and creation of operational or financial reports. Manage yard operations: inspect equipment, complete repairs, coordinate with maintenance for preventive services, and resolve mechanical safety issues. Resolve service issues with drivers, customers, and company personnel for routing, planning, mechanical problems, and accessorial pay matters. Maintain a safety culture through daily safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of company safety and DOT compliance policies. Assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on‑time service and meet customer requirements, including managing freight exceptions and driver ETA adjustments. Candidate must be willing to relocate at the end of the 1‑6 month program and work nights and/or weekends as needed. Qualifications Minimum High School Diploma/GED or equivalent up to 4 years of education, experience, and training, and/or enrollment toward a degree program with up to 2 years of equivalent education, experience, and training, and/or Bachelor’s degree, capable of working across multiple shifts. Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable. Preferred Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of equivalent education, experience, and training. Recognize, anticipate, and resolve organizational and operational problems. Compensation & Benefits The expected starting pay range is $46,100 – $63,000 per year. Pay may vary based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. This position may be eligible for an annual bonus and incentives according to the Company’s bonus and incentive plans. The Company offers medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability coverage, paid time off (vacation and sick time), six weeks of paid maternity leave, two weeks of paid parental leave, and six paid holidays annually.
