Natural Gas Utility Inspector

We are looking for Natural Gas Inspectors to work in West Texas. The role involves inspecting the proper construction of natural gas distribution systems. This is a full-time, year-round position with comprehensive benefits. Duties and Responsibilities Evaluate the job, construction route, and be familiar with the traffic flow prior to project start. Walk door-to-door, meet with all residential customers, address concerns, take pictures, make detailed notes, and point out any concrete or paving damage before starting construction; upload documentation into FieldLogIQ. Meet with contractors to review the job, discuss concerns, obtain crew lists, and confirm Operator Qualified (OQ) status before work begins. Document the progress of each project daily in FieldLogIQ, following the entry requirements outlined in the FieldLogIQ User Expectations Form and any client-specific systems. In conjunction with the client representative, make field recommendations on line placement when unknown conflicts arise, confirming changes in writing by email with the appropriate client representative. Verify tie-in points are acceptable by ensuring the tapped line meets minimum wall thickness; observe and document measurements. Understand Best Management Practices, including proper placement of silt fencing and hay socks. Visually inspect welds and fusions on all fittings and joints and verify adherence to manufacturer and client procedures. Maintain OQ skills. Observe proper jacking of pipelines, document voltage, and inspect coating and repair anomalies; measure coating thickness. Determine if services need to be installed at a particular customer location, coordinating tie-ins with the construction department and service rebuilds with the service department. Understand meter placement for relocations and move-outs per client construction standards. Help resolve landscaping and restoration issues in collaboration with contractor, customer, and client. Confirm accuracy of contractor documentation and invoices to reflect specific tasks and linear feet of pipe installed. Accurately complete all documentation, including OQ lists, completion reports, as-built install and retirement drawings, material lists, anode cards, pressure test charts, service data, and service field orders within allotted time. Understand city and county paving cut and backfill standards, verify paving and concrete repairs with contractor. Communicate effectively, both written and orally. Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report all incidents, near misses, accidents, and injuries per guidelines; provide leadership through example. Assist the Inspection Manager with training incoming inspectors. Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve goals. Extensive travel required. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Read and understand construction prints. Sketch construction drawings or use software for construction diagrams. Maintain accurate project records and documentation during construction. Adhere to safety standards and proactively reduce safety risk. Attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Build credibility and relationships with a broad range of individuals. Perform responsibilities with minimal supervision. Meet project deadlines. Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED required. 3–5 years of experience in the natural gas industry required; more experience may be required by specific clients. Experience with visual inspection of steel pipe welds and polyethylene pipe fusions, reading construction prints, and completing as-built drawings preferred. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a car or truck required. Hands‑on construction experience desired. Physical Demands Duties performed primarily outdoors with weather exposure. Perform moderate physical activity, including somewhat strenuous daily tasks of a primarily productive/technical nature. Navigate uneven construction sites, frequently bend at knees and waist. Work in a very loud, active construction environment. Communicate frequently with co-workers and clients.
