This role supports ophthalmologists and optometrists in delivering high-quality, patient-centered eye care across outpatient clinics, procedural units, and surgical settings.The Eye Specialist assesses visual health concerns, prepares patients for ophthalmic procedures, assists with treatments, and monitors recovery while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the care continuum.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical CarePerform focused ophthalmic assessments, including vision changes, eye pain, and post-procedure statusPrepare and assist patients for eye examinations, laser procedures, and surgeriesAdminister ophthalmic medications, including eye drops and injections as orderedMonitor patients pre- and post-operatively for complications related to eye proceduresMaintain sterile technique and infection control standards specific to ophthalmologyPatient EducationEducate patients and families on eye conditions, procedures, and treatment plansProvide clear instructions on post-operative eye care, medications, and follow-up visitsPromote eye health, vision safety, and disease preventionDocumentation & ComplianceAccurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in EPICEnsure compliance with nursing standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirementsProtect patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standardsCollaborationWork closely with ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, and surgical teamsCoordinate patient flow, diagnostics, procedures, and discharge planningDelegate tasks appropriately based on patient needs and staff competenciesQuality & Professional PracticeParticipate in quality improvement initiatives related to ophthalmic careMaintain current knowledge of ophthalmology best practices and proceduresDemonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to patient-centered careKey Success FactorsKnowledge of eye anatomy, common eye diseases, and ophthalmic proceduresAbility to recognize and respond to changes in visual or ocular conditionsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsCritical thinking and problem-solving abilitiesAttention to detail and patient safetyComfort working in fast-paced clinic or procedural environmentsCommitment to continuous learning and professional development AA2IT
