Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Myelin Lab Department/Unit: Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutic Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $62,232 – $70,344 The Myelin Lab at Albany Medical College, co‑led by Dr. Sophie Belin and Dr. Yannick Poitelon, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for an NIH‑funded project investigating how PMP2, a fatty‑acid chaperone, regulates Schwann cell metabolism and the formation and maintenance of peripheral nerve myelin. The work integrates molecular biology, lipid analysis, imaging, and animal models to understand mechanisms underlying peripheral neuropathies. Key Responsibilities Perform molecular and cell biology techniques related to myelin and peripheral nerve biology. Conduct imaging and quantitative analysis of myelin structure and function. Work with animal (mouse) models to study Schwann cell metabolism. Analyze data, prepare figures, and write manuscripts, presenting results at conferences. Assist in grant preparation to NIH and foundations under PI supervision. Mentor students and research assistants. Required Qualifications PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Physiology, Neuroscience, or a related field. Strong hands‑on laboratory skills and experience in experimental design. Ability to interpret data and communicate findings clearly. Experience with Schwann cells, myelin, or peripheral nerve biology preferred. Background knowledge in lipid metabolism, fatty‑acid trafficking, or cell metabolic assays preferred. Experience with mouse models or neurobiology techniques preferred. Capability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
