Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty required License: Compact or state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, CPI, NIHSS preferred Must-Have: - Telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias - On-unit monitoring - Administration and management of cardiac drips - Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management - Starting IVs and wound care/management Description: The role requires the nurse to be prepared for potential emergency team assignments. Travelers should be comfortable with the expectations of staying at the facility during emergencies. Unit accommodates first-time travelers with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Patient diagnoses include chest pain, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbation, pneumonia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, renal failure, pulmonary embolism, congestive heart failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, and syncope. There is always a possibility for medical-surgical overflow. Special procedures include pre/post-cath lab, vascular surgeries, and titration of various drips. Experience with telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, PCAs, epidurals, and wound vacs is essential. The unit typically has a patient ratio of 6:1 during both day and night shifts. Weekly schedules cannot guarantee specific requests. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy. This position offers care for adults and geriatrics and expects skilled management of various acute conditions. The nurse will be responsible for adherence to isolation precautions and the administration of blood products. This is a fast-paced work environment that provides comprehensive patient care and requires flexibility for various assignments.
