Job Description and Duties

*This position may be located in either the Bakersfield (Kern County) or Rancho Cucamonga (San Bernardino County) office; Please indicate on your job application which location you are applying for.

Under the general direction of an Attorney Supervisor, the Attorney IV monitors, evaluates, and reports  on the most difficult and sensitive California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR)  criminal and administrative investigations related to alleged employee sexual misconduct and the  litigation of employee disciplinary actions. The Attorney IV monitors and evaluates the performances  of CDCR’s Office of Internal Affairs (OIA) investigators, Office of Legal Affairs Employment Advocacy  and Prosecution Team (EAPT) attorneys, and hiring authorities, including wardens. The Attorney IV  performs OIG investigations or investigative activities concerning alleged CDCR employee sexual  misconduct. The Attorney IV travels to CDCR prisons or other CDCR facilities throughout the State of  California; various stakeholders offices; and Office of the Inspector General (OIG) headquarters and  regional offices. The Attorney IV completes work on special projects and performs other duties as  assigned .

Please Note:

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced by 4.62% and will accrue 8 hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period. PLP 2025 for this classification is expected to be effective through October 2026.

Telework eligibility is pursuant to Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California.

The Office of the Inspector General intends to fully comply with Executive Order N-22-25, requiring employees to report to an OIG office location or field location at least four days per week. Additional on-site days may be required based on departmental policies and operational needs.

The selected candidate will be required to commute to their HQ office location as needed to meet operational needs. All commute expenses to the HQ location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
