About the Role:

The Mental Health Technician Nights plays a critical role in supporting the care and safety of patients during overnight hours in mental health facilities. This position involves closely monitoring patients, assisting with therapeutic activities, and ensuring a secure and supportive environment throughout the night. The technician collaborates with clinical staff to observe patient behavior, report changes, and intervene when necessary to de-escalate situations. By providing compassionate care and maintaining vigilance, the technician helps promote patient stability and recovery during a vulnerable time. Ultimately, this role contributes to the overall effectiveness of the mental health treatment team by ensuring continuous patient support and safety during night shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience or training in a mental health or healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work overnight shifts consistently and reliably.
• Strong observational and communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of safety and emergency response procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification as a Mental Health Technician or related credential.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health crises or behavioral challenges.
• Training in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, or first aid/CPR.
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Post-secondary education in psychology, social work, or a related field.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and observe patients continuously to ensure their safety and well-being during night shifts.
• Assist patients with daily living activities and therapeutic exercises as directed by clinical staff.
• Document patient behavior, incidents, and any changes in condition accurately and promptly.
• Respond to emergencies and behavioral crises by implementing de-escalation techniques and following established protocols.
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to support individualized patient care plans.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment by conducting regular safety checks and reporting hazards.
• Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients, fostering a respectful and empathetic atmosphere.

The Mental Health Technician uses strong observational skills daily to monitor patient behavior and identify any signs of distress or changes in condition. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients compassionately and collaborating with clinical team members to relay important information. Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills are applied to manage challenging situations safely and maintain a calm environment.
