Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years PCU RN experience required License: LA License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; LVAD certification preferred Description: The traveler will be assigned to a specific Progressive Care Unit once their interview is completed. The unit consists of approximately 24-25 beds, depending on the assigned area. The nurse will be responsible for providing care to various patient types, which may include cardiac and medical stepdown patients. Patients in the cardiac stepdown unit may include those recovering from surgeries such as CABG, lung surgeries, and catheter interventions. The medical stepdown unit will care for patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, and sepsis. Patient-to-nurse ratios may range from 1:3 to 1:4. The nurse may be required to titrate cardiac and insulin drips, manage central lines, and care for drains and wounds. Cardiac skills may include managing and pulling venous sheaths and temporary pacemakers. Support staff on the unit includes certified nursing assistants during the day and night shifts, along with unit secretaries and charge nurses. Resource nurses and hospitalists are available on call 24/7. Charting is conducted using the EMR system, and various IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are utilized. Travelers are expected to work a weekend rotation, every other weekend. Scheduling will require working four days one week and three days the next week as part of mandatory requirements. Holidays will require working two out of three major holidays. The dress code includes pewter scrubs, gray, white, or black t-shirts with monograms, and jackets in gray or black. Badges must be worn above the waist at all times. The culture within the unit is diverse and traveler-friendly.
