DEFINITION:


The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Supervisor will coordinate deaf service resources, provide training and expertise to regional center staff, and coordinate with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) on statewide efforts. This position provides agency-wide support for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and have developmental disabilities, identifying and developing resources to provide improved services and supports.

NATURE OF WORK:


The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Supervisor reports to the Federal Program and Special Projects Manager. This position will serve as the Regional Center's point-person and subject matter expert on the provision of services to the deaf and hard of hearing community. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community Supervisor will engage in resource development for SARC's catchment area (Santa Clara, Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito counties) which includes participating in the Request for Interest (RFI) process. This position may support resource development in the area of deaf and hard of hearing services as well as support the needs of our current individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing process as outlined in California Code of Regulations Title XVII. The position will provide program evaluation, and technical assistance to staff, vendors, individuals, and the community on resources, regulations, unmet needs and quality assurance for services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals with developmental disabilities. This position will ensure services provided are in compliance with Title XVII, California Code of Regulations, the Lanterman Act, Agency standards and best practices for community programs for people with developmental disabilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:


This position will support the community services department in identifying resources AND support case management by evaluating supports for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing. The incumbent will work daily, supporting catchment areas and offices to identify and partner with new vendors which provide deaf and hard of hearing services connect with related

community agencies and assess unmet needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community are served by. This position will regularly collaborate with the Deaf Access Specialist at the Department of Developmental Services, as well as other Regional Centers' Deaf Access Specialists (or similar positions).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


1.Provides consultation, guidance and support for Service Coordinators with identified DHOH individuals on their caseload.

2.Provides consultation for service needs on DHOH cases, including supporting the Service Coordinator in IPP meetings, finding community supports/services, assessments, communication devices and technology needs.

3.Provides community outreach and education, including creating conferences and seminars.

4.Participates in DHOH workgroups and similar statewide DHOH committees.

5.Identify and partner with generic agencies which provide services for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing, advocating for these services to be available to, and/or adapted for, regional center individuals.

6.Collaborate with vendors and other entities which specialize in needed services to expand the pool of available resources.

7.Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.

8.Support the community services department to collaborate on potential new programs for the deaf and hard of hearing community. Support the Community Resource Department in identifying relevant programs.

9.Assess the deaf and hard of hearing community's unmet needs and act as the point person on resource development for services and support.

10.Participate in statewide collaboration efforts with staff members in similar positions at other regional centers, along with DDS's Deaf Access Specialist, to identify best practices, strategies

11.Organize and facilitate/present trainings for regional center staff and vendors and develop additional trainings and informational materials, as needed.

12.Support the engagement of appropriate services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

13.Evaluate the quality of skills and effectiveness of ASL interpreters.

14.Support the SC's in developing a comprehensive communication plan for the individual using a person-centered approach.

15.Assist in recruiting and interviewing qualified ASL interpreters and real-time closed-captioning.

16.Prepare and provide information regarding deaf and hard of hearing accommodations for materials

17. May Visit individuals in their homes and day programs as requested by the IDT. Assist in the evaluation and securing of supports needed for the deaf and hard of hearing individuals with a developmental disability

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Completion of a Master's Degree preferred in public administration, business administration, psychology, criminal justice, social work or a related field. Two years' experience after graduation in the field of developmental disabilities including some experience in the area of program evaluation.

OR

A Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years' experience working in the field of or similar to that of developmental disabilities.

Minimum qualifications may be waived depending on the agency need for specialized skills (such as language abilities).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


The following requirements generally demonstrate possession of the minimum requisite knowledge and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position.

• Two years' experience with the deaf and hard of hearing community

• or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Fluency in American Sign Language required

OTHER: Use of an automobile, possession of a valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance for the minimum amount prescribed by law or the ability to provide for independent transportation.

$8,042-$9,756 Monthly (depending on experience)
