The main function of a blood drawer is to assist in carrying out assigned tasks, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and offering recommendations to improve workflow.
Key Responsibilities
Experience in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging samples, maintaining records, decontaminating equipment, updating patient details, etc. Properly explain the venipuncture process or other specimen collection methods as needed. Utilize straight needles and/or butterfly needles effectively. Understand and follow physicians’ orders accurately. Match requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders. Verify test requisitions for accuracy. Package specimens for transportation. Store samples correctly and follow transportation protocols. Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend department trainings annually. Answer calls and provide laboratory results.
Requirements
At least 6 months of experience in venipuncture in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School diploma or equivalent, or Phlebotomy Certification. 2-4 years of experience.
