Job Summary

Experienced Directional Driller responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring directional and horizontal drilling operations in the oil and gas industry. Skilled in operating downhole drilling equipment, maintaining precise wellbore trajectories, optimizing drilling performance, and ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards. Works closely with drilling engineers, rig personnel, and Measurement While Drilling (MWD) specialists to achieve drilling objectives while minimizing downtime and operational costs.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Operate and monitor directional drilling equipment to accurately drill vertical, directional, and horizontal wellbores according to approved drilling plans.

• Execute directional drilling operations using mud motors, rotary steerable systems (RSS), and other downhole drilling technologies.

• Monitor and control wellbore trajectory, inclination, azimuth, and toolface orientation to maintain precise drilling direction and target accuracy.

• Interpret real-time drilling data, MWD surveys, and downhole measurements to ensure compliance with planned well trajectories.

• Coordinate with drilling engineers, MWD personnel, company representatives, and rig crews to optimize drilling operations and improve overall efficiency.

• Perform directional drilling calculations, including dogleg severity, build rates, turn rates, and projected wellbore positioning.

• Monitor drilling parameters, including weight on bit (WOB), rotary speed (RPM), torque, differential pressure, and rate of penetration (ROP).

• Troubleshoot downhole equipment malfunctions, drilling dysfunctions, and operational challenges to minimize nonproductive time (NPT).

• Assist with bottom hole assembly (BHA) selection, configuration, inspection, and performance evaluation.

• Maintain accurate drilling records, directional surveys, daily reports, and operational documentation.

• Evaluate formation characteristics and drilling performance to recommend adjustments that improve drilling efficiency and wellbore placement.

• Coordinate directional drilling activities during slide drilling, rotary drilling, kickoff operations, and horizontal lateral drilling.

• Monitor wellbore conditions to identify potential drilling hazards, including excessive torque and drag, vibration, and wellbore instability.

• Ensure all directional drilling operations comply with company policies, industry regulations, and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.

• Participate in pre-job safety meetings, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and operational planning discussions.

• Support equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and proper handling of directional drilling tools and components.
