TITLE: Teacher, Elementary Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Dually certified as an Elementary Teacher and Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities by the Delaware Department of Education.
2. Excellent organizational and management skills
3. Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills

REPORTS TO: Program Administrator

LOCATION: ILC/COMPASS

JOB GOAL: To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics and science to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study and curricular resources adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
3. Works closely with the Special Education Coordinator, Related Service Staff, and the IEP Team to develop specialized instruction and activities for students with special needs.
4. Provides progress report updates as required.
5. Develops lesson plans and provides specialized, individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt/accommodate based on the needs of each pupil per the IEP.
6. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
8. Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
9. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program.
10. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
11. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
12. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
13. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
14. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
15. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
16. Can demonstrate knowledge, development, and implementation of student Individual Education Plans, 504 plans, and Behavior Intervention Plans.
17. Attends and participates in scheduled IEP meetings.
18. Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to elementary education instruction.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month work year. Salary and scheduled determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.

The following are conditions of employment for new employees:

1. Satisfactory criminal background check prior to being placed on payroll.
2. Satisfactory child protection registry check.
3. Mandatory direct deposit of pay
4. Documentation of Mantoux skin test results for entrance to school system.

All applicants are required to submit three (3) letters of reference, with one from an immediate supervisor that is dated within the past year. Applicants are advised that a copy of the most recent evaluation will be requested if selected for an interview. The evaluation can be loaded as part of the application in advance.
