Diesel Automotive Technician

Under the supervision of the Fleet Shop Coordinator or the Repair Maintenance Manager, the Diesel Automotive Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair or preventative maintenance to county-owned vehicles and equipment, as assigned in accordance with Harris County Fleet Services and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards. Essential duties and responsibilities include performing required vehicle maintenance and thorough inspection of all vehicle systems, including engine, brakes, steering, suspension, A/C, and electrical. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform high quality and efficient repairs with a "fix it right the first time" approach. Servicing or repairing heavy equipment, vehicles, standard and small equipment as needed. Perform quality control inspections on vendor repaired vehicles to ensure repairs are completed. Create estimates and communicate directly and effectively with coordinators and parts department. Use OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) scan tools and fleet software and help at various shops based on workload. Perform any additional heavy-duty equipment and automotive related tasks assigned by management.
