Adjuster, Guest Claims at Royal Caribbean Group Miami, FL

Position Summary The Guest Claims Adjuster investigates and evaluates passenger claims, including personal injury and medical negligence for Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity. They negotiate out‑of‑court settlements with claimants and attorneys, assist in‑house counsel and outside counsel with litigation, including discovery matters and investigations. Location: Onsite, Miami, Florida. Not eligible for work authorization sponsorship. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Attend bi‑weekly departmental meetings and present selected cases or issues for discussion. Board ships (independently or accompanied by defense attorneys) to conduct investigations and interviews of guests, crewmembers, and/or officers. Review guest statements and accident reports prepared by Safety Officer and inform supervisor or manager of potential trends. Open and maintain files for active guest claims. Notify the appropriate P&I club or other insurance carriers and keep them updated. Investigate claims for all facts, evaluate, and determine potential liability. Correspond with guests or their attorneys in an effort to resolve their claim. Handle litigation files and provide discovery documents and/or information requested by defense attorneys. Meet with defense attorneys to review files and determine a strategy for company defense (settle or litigate). Prepare settlement drafts and releases. Attend mediations, depositions, and/or trials as a company representative. Communicate with vessel and shoreside departments for additional documentation and information. Maintain harmony among staff members and resolve grievances. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Bachelor’s degree preferred; associate degree or 2–3 years of related experience and/or training required. Must be able to travel 10% of the time and maintain a flexible schedule. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common medical and technical reports, and legal documents. Ability to communicate with guests, fellow employees, shipboard staff, and business partners. Ability to effectively present information to supervisor, manager, director, or vice‑president (RM Dept.). Basic mathematical knowledge (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions) and ability to apply them to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Proficiency in a second language preferred.
