We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a construction-focused organization in California. This contract opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can step in quickly, manage core general ledger work, and help keep financial operations on track during an interim period. The role offers the chance to contribute immediately while supporting accurate reporting, timely close activities, and day-to-day accounting needs.

Responsibilities:
• Manage routine general ledger accounting tasks and maintain accurate financial records across daily operations.
• Create, review, and record journal entries to ensure transactions are properly reflected in the accounting system.
• Contribute to month-end close activities, including preparation for scheduled closing deadlines and related accounting support.
• Compile financial data and deliver regular reports to internal stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
• Examine financial statements and ledger activity to confirm accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Investigate account fluctuations, unexpected balances, and unusual transactions to identify root causes and resolve issues.
• Perform account reconciliations, follow up on discrepancies, and correct variances as needed.
• Provide dependable accounting support during the interim staffing period and adapt quickly to established workflows and systems.• At least 3 years of experience in staff accounting or general ledger-focused accounting roles.
• Strong working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statement review.
• Background in construction accounting is strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting accounting functions within general contracting, utilities, or commercial construction environments is highly valued.
• Proficiency with Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate or closely related Timberline systems is strongly preferred.
• Ability to learn existing procedures quickly and contribute effectively with limited onboarding.
• Familiarity with general ledger processes and related accounting tasks such as sales tax or corporate tax support is a plus.
