Job Details Reports To: Principal Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants. Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Duties and Responsibilities A. Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. B. Management of Student Behavior: The teacher establishes rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, verbal participation, classroom movement, and lesson transitions; monitors student behavior during all activities; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity. C. Instructional Presentation: The teacher reviews previous materials, introduces the lesson and objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts using understandable language, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with high success rates, asks appropriate level questions, conducts the lesson at an efficient pace, and summarizes the main points at the end. D. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: The teacher maintains clear work standards, circulates during class work to check performance, uses oral and written assessments, and asks questions one at a time. E. Instructional Feedback: The teacher provides correct/incorrect feedback to encourage growth, gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and sustains feedback after incorrect responses through probing or additional time. F. Facilitating Instruction: The teacher develops an instructional plan aligned with curricular goals, uses diagnostic data to revise objectives, maintains accurate performance records, and uses available resources to support instruction. G. Interacting Within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students fairly, interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community. H. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws and policies, follows a professional development plan, and demonstrates evidence of growth. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Qualifications Physical requirements: light work, use of equipment, negligible force, able to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Data conception: ability to analyze data characteristics. Interpersonal communication: ability to give and receive instructions. Language ability: read, prepare reports, forms, and instructional materials. Intelligence: apply logical or scientific thinking, interpret technical instructions. Verbal aptitude: record and deliver information, explain procedures. Numerical aptitude: use mathematical formulas, arithmetic, and basic statistics. Form/spatial aptitude: inspect items for proper dimensions. Motor coordination: coordinate hands and eyes with office equipment. Manual dexterity: handle items and hand tools with minimal coordination. Color discrimination: differentiate colors and shades. Interpersonal temperament: adapt to stress and emergencies. Physical communication: talk, hear, and use telephone. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Constantly monitor student safety and well‑being. Motivate students. Maintain a clean and orderly environment. Perform general clerical duties. Maintain order and discipline in a classroom. Operate common office machines. Maintain basic files and records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
