Job Description

Harvard University has the largest intercollegiate athletic department in the country with 42 varsity sports and approximately 1,200 varsity student-athletes. The Licensed Mental Health Clinician, LMHC, for Harvard University Health Services is a member of the Counseling and Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team at HUHS and will work collaboratively with the Sports Medicine program within the Department of Athletics to provide mental health services to student-athletes. This position is responsible for developing an Integrated Mental Health Program for Student-Athletes, and Sports Medicine. Within CAMHS, provides assessment and clinical care, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and consultation to student-athletes within an integrated model for providing physical and mental health services.

This is a full-time, seasonal position: 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday) from August 1 - May 31 with a seasonal leave from June 1 - July 31.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

Clinical Care of Student-Athletes

• Facilitates the clinical management of patients through the process of evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, and referral to the appropriate resources.
• Provides individual, group, and crisis intervention.
• Coordinates out-patient visits to ensure timely access to the appropriate services.
• Identifies and monitors high-risk patients and expedites an individualized crisis management plan.
• Develops and maintains mechanisms to assure continuity of care for individuals requiring acute care.
• Experience and ability to provide mental health care towards behavioral disordered eating
• Provides and documents patient education consistent with HUHS policies and procedures
• Assists and participates in the development of treatment plans consistent with the policies and procedures of CAMHS.
• Supervises trainees from the Sports Medicine LMHC program at Boston University.
• Supports primary care model.
• Manages caseload appropriately.
• Documents all patient contacts accurately and in a timely manner.
• Manages clinically expected outcomes to treatment.
• Make appropriate referrals.
• Identifies and assesses appropriateness of care and accessibility.

Education and Outreach

For Student-Athletes

• Partners with Sports Medicine team to conduct mental health screenings for student-athletes during annual physicals.

For the Sports Medicine Team

• Provides psychoeducation and support around mental health concerns as needed.
• Collaborate and make recommendations to Sports Medicine team to support mental health concerns.
• Consult with athletic training staff around students with mental health concerns.

Professional/Team Workplace Accountability

• Works in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team.
• Participates in quality assurance/improvement activities in compliance with AAAHC standards and identified areas for improvement. Adheres to HUHS documentation standards and monitoring.
• Serves as HUHS departmental committees as needed.
• Demonstrates dependable work ethic.

Compliance

• Adheres to the expectations and professional responsibilities of the department.
• Employs the standards, practices, and procedures of the department.
• Completes and complies with all HUHS training requirements including HIPAA Privacy and Security.
• Reports non-compliance incidents to the supervisor, manager, and/or Compliance Officer.
• Adheres to NCAA and Ivy League Rules and Regulations.
• Adheres to HUHS documentation standards and monitoring.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Master's degree required.
• Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience.
• Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LMHC) with current Massachusetts License.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

• Demonstrated work experience in the following areas: student-athlete mental health issues, consultation to athletic trainers, and student-athletes, assessment/treatment of a diverse population, substance addiction, eating disorders, multicultural adjustment issues and performance issues.
• Experience with emergency care and crisis management.

Additional Certificates and Licenses:

• Must be certified in first aid, CPR and AED.

Standard Hours/Schedule: This is a full-time, 40 hours a week (Monday-Friday) seasonal position from August 1 - May 31, with a seasonal leave from June 1 - July 31.

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University's Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
