Ultrasonographer

About the Role The Ultrasonographer is responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. Sonography is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis. The Ultrasonographer may specialize in obstetric/gynecologic, abdominal, neurosonography, or breast sonography. Responsibilities Key duties include: Review patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepare equipment for procedure. Select appropriate equipment settings. Explain procedure to patient and record any relevant medical history. Direct patient to positions that provide the best view. Apply gel on the skin to aid sound wave transmission. Operate equipment to direct high‑frequency sound waves into patient’s body. Collect reflected echoes and generate images for interpretation. Identify visual cues indicating healthy or unhealthy areas. Select images for physician’s diagnostic review. Takes measurements, calculates values, and compiles preliminary reports. Maintain patient records and adjust/maintain equipment. Comply with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in sonography from an accredited program. Current RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) certification. Current CPR certification. Minimum of one year of experience as a certified ultrasonographer. Reasoning ability to solve practical problems in varied situations. Ability to interpret diverse instructions (written, oral, diagram, schedule). Computer skills: knowledge of computer information systems. Physical Demands The role requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and talking or hearing. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Work Environment Professional office setting with standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Travel Primarily local during business days; occasional out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be expected. Compensation Salary range: $32.53 – $38.22 per hour, based on experience, education, skills, and location.
