Server Assistant - Town Company

Position Overview Reporting to Food & Beverage leadership, the Server Assistant is a guest-facing service colleague responsible for supporting dining room service flow at The Town Company. Server Assistant responsibilities can include supporting table maintenance, food delivery, clearing, resetting, and guest service needs. The Town Company is a chef-driven restaurant within Hotel Kansas City, where warm hospitality, teamwork, and attention to detail are essential to the guest experience. The colleagues who thrive in this role are dependable, welcoming, organized, and comfortable supporting multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, high‑touch restaurant environment. This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys helping guests feel cared for, supporting colleagues, and learning the rhythm of elevated food and beverage service. Key Responsibilities Guest Experience & Service Welcome guests in a warm, professional, and attentive manner. Help create a positive first and last impression through genuine hospitality, eye contact, clear communication, and follow‑through. Assist guests with questions about the restaurant, menu, hotel services, and local area as appropriate. Communicate wait times, seating updates, and guest needs clearly and professionally. Support guest satisfaction by observing the dining room, anticipating needs, and responding with urgency and care. Listen carefully to guest concerns or special requests and involve servers or management appropriately. Assist with special occasions, guest preferences, and service notes as directed by leadership. Server Assistant & Dining Room Support Assist servers with food and beverage service to support a timely and polished dining experience. Preset tables, refill beverages, clear courses, remove soiled items, crumb or maintain tables as appropriate, and reset tables efficiently. Deliver food orders as directed, verifying accuracy, presentation, table numbers, seat positions, and guest needs when applicable. Maintain awareness of service pacing and communicate guest needs or table status updates to servers and leadership. Support cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of dining room stations, service areas, and workspaces. Assist with side work, opening duties, closing duties, and general cleaning tasks. Maintain working knowledge of the menu, service standards, table numbers, restaurant layout, and basic food and beverage offerings. Safety, Sanitation & Compliance Follow all departmental policies, service procedures, sanitation standards, and safety expectations. Comply with company alcohol service policies and applicable liquor laws when supporting beverage service. Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of equipment; report repair needs promptly. Confirm service ware condition and ensure items meet restaurant standards. Maintain cleanliness and organization of all assigned work areas. Report safety, guest, service, or equipment concerns promptly to management. Report for scheduled shifts on time and in compliance with uniform and appearance standards. Collaboration & Operational Support Work closely with hosts, servers, expo, culinary, bar, and leadership teams to support smooth service flow. Communicate professionally and respectfully with guests, colleagues, and leaders. Support colleagues during busy periods by adjusting priorities and assisting where needed. Maintain composure, organization, and positive communication in a high-volume environment. Complete other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED equivalency required. Experience Prior food and beverage, restaurant, hospitality, or guest service experience required. Fine dining, upscale casual, chef-driven, hotel restaurant, or high-volume guest service experience preferred. Availability aligned with The Town Company's operating hours required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require. Technical & Operational Knowledge Ability to learn restaurant layout, table and seat numbers, reservation flow, service standards, menu items, and basic food and beverage offerings. Ability to use or learn reservation systems, POS functions, and communication tools as assigned. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests and colleagues. Strong organizational skills and problem‑solving ability required. Core Competencies Guest Focus: Provides warm, attentive, and responsive support that contributes to a positive dining experience. Collaboration: Works well with servers, hosts, expo, culinary, bar, and leadership teams to support service flow. Professionalism: Maintains composure, good judgment, and a service‑oriented approach in a fast‑paced environment. Attention to Detail: Notices table status, guest needs, cleanliness standards, timing, and service cues. Adaptability: Balances multiple priorities and remains effective during high‑volume or changing business conditions. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, carry, and continuously perform essential functions for an extended period of time. Ability to transport trays and service items through a crowded dining room throughout the shift. Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 30 lbs. as needed; ability to assist with larger service items or trays up to 50 lbs. should be confirmed by leadership. Ability to operate beverage equipment, toast equipment, reservation systems, POS systems, and related restaurant tools as assigned. Ability to support a high‑volume, high‑touch guest environment while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and positive communication.
