A typical day for a Surgical Technologist may involve:
• Preparing operating rooms by organizing surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies to ensure readiness for scheduled procedures.
• Working alongside the perioperative registered nurse to deliver personalized, age-appropriate care for patients throughout their surgical journey.
• Upholding a sterile environment and following infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and organizational policies to ensure safe surgical outcomes.
• Anticipating the needs of the surgeon regarding instruments and equipment during procedures while adapting swiftly to changes in surgical conditions.
• Assisting the surgical team during both routine and complex procedures by managing instruments, supplies, and equipment with precision and care.
• Monitoring the surgical environment to ensure that patients' physiological responses remain stable throughout the perioperative process.
• Promoting a safe operating room atmosphere by adhering to established risk reduction practices, including fire prevention measures and safety protocols related to laser and electrosurgical equipment.
• Collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, registered nurses, and other perioperative team members to deliver coordinated, patient-focused care.
• Ensuring accurate preparation, organization, and turnover of surgical equipment to facilitate efficient workflow and readiness between procedures.
• Engaging in departmental education, orientation, competency validation, and quality improvement initiatives that foster ongoing clinical excellence.

To qualify for this Surgical Technologist position, you should be passionate about ensuring safe, high-quality surgical care through technical skills and teamwork. You must have completed a nationally or regionally accredited Surgical Technology program or possess and maintain a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or another recognized credentialing body. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required, along with successful completion of departmental orientation and competency assessments.
