We are looking for a leader to provide thought leadership, review and support to the team across a range of accounting areas as Ares continues to increase in size and complexity. This individual's primary responsibility will be to oversee various areas of operating expenses to ensure proper accounting and adherence to a SOX 404 control environment while helping continuously improve processes.Primary functions and essential responsibilitiesWork closely with CAO, Global Controller, and Assistant Controller in managing the accounting function for a NYSE listed public company, including:Reviewing journal entries, expense allocations and balance sheet reconciliationsReviewing expenses to ensure proper accountingMonitoring SOX 404 control environmentPreparing variance analyses and other ad hoc financial metricsOverseeing quarterly update of G&A expense forecastPerform analytics and derive conclusions from data to help facilitate business decisionsManage a team consisting of offshore and onshore resources working in various time zonesAssist in managing external auditors as well as internal audit and tax relationshipsContribute to various special projects including capital transactions, acquisitions, and process improvements to improve overall group efficienciesIdentify manual processes and work with others within the organization to implement and operationalize newly automated and streamlined processesSupport internal reporting requirements and other ad-hoc requests of various internal users including other finance and accounting teams, investor relations and investment professionalsDirectly support the Assistant Controller in providing leadership, mentorship, and oversight to the broader team across a broad range of accounting areas and situations the team manages beyond what has been already listedOther duties as assigned by managementQualificationsEducation:A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is considered a plus.CPA or CA required.Experience: 10+ years of relevant professional experience in accountingBoth public and private accounting experience preferredMinimum 5 years in a similar capacityFinancial services industry experience preferredHands-on experience with ERP systems, preferably Oracle FusionExperience with Power BI or other business intelligence tools a plusExperience utilizing AI tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT in day-to-day activities preferredGeneral Requirements:Hands-on, independent contributor that is comfortable directing activities of othersAbility to work independently in a fast-paced environmentDesire to own your area of responsibilityProactive in nature and a proven ability to learn quickly, display flexibility and adaptability while resolving issues with minimal supervisionDependable, positive attitude, highly motivated and a team playerStrong work ethic, an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to learnExcellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to communicate well with members of different groups throughout the organizationAbility to identify and analyze problem situations and develop an effective course of actionAbility to successfully manage multiple priorities and competing demands, excellent time/project management and prioritization skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detail while being able to see big pictureAbility to be flexible in terms of hours to coordinate with team members across various time zonesReporting RelationshipsCompensationThe anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.$165,000 - $185,000The firm also offers robust Benefits offerings.
