Yard Laborer

Job Description As a member of our Yard Team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of our yard, supporting various aspects of girder production, and ensuring a safe working environment. The role will be based in our Midwest branch located in Channahon, IL and will report to our local Yard Manager. Assist in the loading and unloading of materials and equipment using forklifts and other equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and debris‑free yard to support safety and operational efficiency; conduct routine maintenance, sweeping, cleaning, and disposal of waste; assist in setting up work areas; support yard operations as needed. Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels of raw materials and finished products; perform regular counts and inspections; report discrepancies. Assist in fulfilling orders by accurately counting, selecting, and preparing materials for delivery or internal use. Support production activities by transporting materials, tools, and equipment; collaborate with team members to meet production goals. Operate machinery such as skid steers safely; conduct routine equipment checks. Follow safety guidelines and protocols; wear and maintain PPE; report hazards; participate in safety meetings or trainings. Work closely with welders and fabricators to facilitate workflow and meet project deadlines. Work both indoors in a warehouse setting and outdoors in the yard in varying weather conditions; may be exposed to loud noises, dust, and heavy equipment; must stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods. Qualifications No prior experience required; prior experience in a yard, warehouse, manufacturing, or construction environment is a plus. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Willingness to learn: open to training, follow instructions, ask questions, show continuous improvement; committed to safety practices and PPE use. Physical Requirements Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labor tasks, primarily outdoors. Ability to lift 25 pounds consistently throughout an 8‑hour shift. Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry materials during the workday. Soft Skills Strong attention to detail and commitment to keeping the work area clean and organized. Effective communication skills; ability to follow instructions and ask questions. Team‑oriented with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Dependable, punctual, and safety‑conscious. Compensation and Benefits Base pay for this position is USD20.00-21.00 hourly, determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
