Overview Assistant Coach, Men's Ice Hockey | Brown University Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the Assistant Coach, Men's Ice Hockey position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, a member of the Ivy League, the intercollegiate athletics program includes 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes participating in NCAA Division I. The Assistant Coach, Men's Ice Hockey is the assistant to the Head Coach, Men's Ice Hockey, taking on significant responsibilities in practice planning, game strategy, and player mentorship. This role focuses on individual player development and serves as a direct line of communication between the head coach and athletes. Responsibilities Support practice planning and execution in coordination with the Head Coach. Contribute to game strategy and opponent preparation. Develop individual players and provide mentorship to student-athletes. Serve as a key communication link between the head coach, athletes, and staff. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required. 2-4 years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level. Strong knowledge of the sport and player development. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Job Competencies Solid understanding of the sport's rules, strategies, and techniques. Working knowledge of NCAA/league compliance requirements. Knowledge of athlete skill development and position-specific training. Understanding of recruiting processes and athlete evaluation methods. Awareness of injury prevention and safe training practices. Strong instructional and coaching skills for both individual and team development. Effective communication skills with athletes, colleagues, and recruits. Organization and time management skills. Ability to utilize video analysis and performance review tools. Basic data collection and performance tracking skills. Ability to assist in designing and executing practice plans. Ability to evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive feedback. Ability to support recruiting initiatives and build relationships with prospective athletes. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond effectively under pressure. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to compliance standards. Compliance and Certifications All division employees must demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations. Duties are to be performed in compliance with NCAA, Ivy League, and ECAC rules. Any rules violations must be reported to the compliance office. Coaching staff must complete annual NCAA recruiting rules education and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification provided at no cost through the Division).
