Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older Must have a high school diploma or GED Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English Education/Certification: None Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to respond in emergency situations Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment Ability to manage student behavior Ability to work well with students with disabilities Ability to work as a team with the bus driver Experience: None Major Responsibilities and Duties: Student Management – According to I.E.P. Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs. Follow established safety guidelines and procedures, supervise students, as well as instruct them on safe entering and exiting the bus. Learn and adapt to each student’s specific medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. Manage student behaviors according to CPI practices utilizing Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention as a last resort and reporting student discipline problems in a timely manner to transportation. Communicate with the Special Needs Route Coordinator regarding student specific needs and behaviors on the bus. Routes and Schedules Assist with completing and maintaining accurate, updated, and timely records and reports including daily attendance. Safety Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Make sure that all safety equipment is used correctly to safely secure the student according to I.E.P. (i.e. seat belts, harnesses, and help students use safety devices when needed). Assist with emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and if necessary administering first aid. Other Assist with keeping the bus clean. Attend monthly Safety Meetings. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
