Student Services Generalist (Career)

Student Services Generalist (Career) The Student Services Generalist is the primary contact with students who are in need of career advising and guidance. The role involves assisting students through career advising, exploration, and aligning major selections with their career goals, as well as providing academic advising as needed. The Generalist engages in institutional retention initiatives, oversees the Owl Leadership Academy, and supports Community College 3.0 initiatives. Responsibilities Provides direction, process overview, and information to students, parents, non‑traditional, and adult learners regarding college admission, registration, financial aid, student account functions, programs, activities, and student services. Provides referrals for the Americans with Disabilities Act and other special needs. Monitors services and traffic flow in the Student Development One Stop Centers as it relates to Career Services. Oversees, utilizes, and reports on Career Services technology platforms—VMock, Handshake, Focus 2, Stepping Blocks, Parker Dewey, EAB Navigate, and Forage—while providing training, support, and data analysis to advance student career readiness and engagement. Develops career and individual action plans using EAB Navigate Journeys and other career tools to guide students toward on‑time graduation and preparation for internships, experiential learning, and job placement. Coordinates effective communication to the student body to market career opportunities locally and abroad via phone calls, text messages, emails, and retention platform tools. Oversees the Owl Leadership Academy, including recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and career development of student leaders to develop workforce‑ready skills aligned with NACE Career Readiness Competencies. Collaborates with the academic division on updates and trainings pertaining to NACE Career Readiness Competencies. Assists with new adult learner orientations and provides ongoing information to students, potential students, and parents regarding policies, programs, and procedures. Reads, interprets, and communicates college policies and procedures. Recommends improvements in department procedures and collaborates with staff, administrators, and faculty to identify needed improvements in procedures and communication. Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Experience: Outstanding customer service and communication skills; experience working with diverse student populations; proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Competencies and Skills: Strong interpersonal skills; quick study of policies and procedures; analytical and problem‑solving skills; initiative to solve problems; collaboration; commitment to student service and a diverse population; comfort with multiple tech platforms. Physical Demands and Work Environment Typically performed in a typical interior/residence work environment. May require some physical effort, occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. No or very limited exposure to physical risk, though some travel may be required. Salary and Benefits Salary: $53,000.
