Autism/Behavioral Support SpecialistPosition Summary: An Autism Specialist position consults schools for students who have been identified with autism or suspected of having autism. The Autism Specialist collaborates with all stakeholders on students' teams.This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services. This position is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with an extended 20-day contract. 182 days with 20 additional contracted days. The starting salary for this position is $43,500 - $93,500. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.Essential Functions:Consult with teams in the district for students who have been identified with autism or suspected of having or could benefit from strategies commonly utilized with those with autism and need additional support.Observe students and support problem-solving with teams.Assist teams with success plans and function-based thinking.Assist teams in developing Functional Behavior Assessments and related Behavior Intervention PlansSupport program and curriculum development.Provide training to staff on high leverage practices.Stay current with evidence-based practices and research in the field of autism and applied behavior analysis.Stay current and be able to facilitate support related to curriculum and assessment tools within the areas of social, academic, and behavioral needs.Assist teams in identifying assessment, program development, and implementation as it related to students who have autism.Guide and assist in development of effective programs within the areas of academic, social, and behavioral domains.Train teachers and other personnel in strategies and program development/ implementationOrganize schedule to prioritize multiple students and school needs.Coordinate data collection system and assist in analyzing data.Collaborate with a variety of education professionals.Perform other duties as assigned.Demonstrate ability in assessment, program development, and implementation across academic, social, and behavioral domains.Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises students and teacher aides. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Missouri Teaching Certification in area of application. Preferred experience as a teacher in a low incidence setting programming for students with autism. Preferred experience of 3 years supporting students with autism. The position will require a passing certification of Safe Crisis Management (SCM)Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on program and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.
