Job Title: Med Surg/IMC/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med Surg/IMC/Tele RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 1900 to 0730 Experience: 1 year of Tele, IMC/Stepdown RN License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Majority of cardiac experience, drip experience, good communication, good teamwork, good work ethic Description: The department includes a 28-bed unit. Nurse to patient ratios are average 1:5 during the day and evening shifts, and 1:5-7 during night shifts. Up to 75% of patients are cardiac cases including pre/post catheterizations, pre CABG, chest pain, and NSTEMIs. General diagnoses include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis issues, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, and overflow strokes. Experience in titrating drips is required. Common titratable drips include insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, and lasix. There are Tele/Monitor Technicians providing 24/7 monitoring of patients, but nurses are required to check their own strips. Charge nurses do have patients but generally do not take a full assignment to remain available as a resource for the team. Nurse aides are present on the unit with an average ratio of 1:9 during the day/evening and 1:14 during night shifts when full. Equipment available includes continuous CPAP & BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, vapor therms, nebulizers, and chest PT, but no vents are on the unit. There is no self-scheduling; shifts are varied and include 0700-1900, 1100-2300, and 1900-0700. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Holiday requirements are every other holiday. Agency staff are not put on call. Staff may float to other Med/Surg floors and possibly outside the Med/Surg cluster as needed. All staff must dress in clean and professional scrubs of any color. It is mandatory that all clinicians clock in and out while working.
