Position Summary:
The College of Social Work & Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor III in Boca Raton, FL.
The Academic Advisor III serves as a dedicated partner in student success, providing holistic academic advising and guidance to students throughout their educational journey. Through proactive outreach, degree planning, graduation support, and collaboration with university partners, this role helps students navigate academic requirements, achieve their educational goals, and persist to graduation. The position also supports recruitment, retention, and student engagement initiatives while contributing to a welcoming and student-centered advising environment.
*The primary work location for this position is the Boca Raton campus. This role will also require travel to—and work at—Davie campus.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Serve as an academic advisor in providing academic advising and program guidance to CDSI students.
Assist all CDSI students on the Broward Campuses through the academic process from initial contact to graduation.
Assist students with exploring and gathering information on University and College policies, procedures and degree requirements.
Direct to the appropriate University office for assistance with concerns that do not fall within the purview of the CAC.
Maintain the college academic files for students in relevant college degree programs.
Serves as liaison with the Veterans office and be primary advisor for all active-duty military or veterans.
Reinforce and support student degree progress, academic success, and retention, in alignment with the strategic priorities of the college and its ongoing commitment to student success.
Help create and sustain a positive environment in which all students have access to high-quality advising.
Serve as an academic advisor to all Social Work and Criminal Justice (SW-CJ) students through the academic process from initial contact to graduation.
Assist students with exploring and gathering information on University and College policies, procedures, and degree requirements.
Serve as liaison to the BSW field practicum education team, confirm that BSW majors are eligible and meet the criteria to apply for the practicum course (SOW4510), monitor progress in spreadsheet, enter permission for students to register for SOW4510.
Process applications for degree and conduct graduation checks.
Manage online queue for change of majors, or minors by approving or denying requests.
Serve as liaison to the Veterans office and be primary advisor for all active-duty military or veterans.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge about the College’s programs and requirements.
Advise students about the courses and requirements for degree programs.
Inform students about possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g., adding, dropping, withdrawing, changing major, repeated attempts).
Educate students about course planning and registration processes.
Make appropriate referrals to students perceived as at-risk and act as an advocate for student success.
Monitor student academic plans to provide timely, proactive outreach to ensure degree progression and timely graduation.
Direct students to the appropriate university office for assistance with concerns that do not fall within the purview of SW-CJ Advising Services.
Support Advising Services with student programming and special events.
Participate in student recruitment and orientation presentations.
Maintain college academic files for students in relevant college degree programs.
Recognize the importance of key performance indicators and work competently with available software and technology to facilitate timely and data-driven advising.
Work collaboratively with multiple units across the university.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience required.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Appreciative Advisor Certification is strongly preferred.
Salary:
$62,000 annually.
