Position Summary

The Sr Hydraulics Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, integrations, troubleshooting and optimizing hydraulic components to improve performance, efficiency, and reliability. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve engineering challenges, support product development, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. This position will include design, analysis, 2d and 3d modeling, testing, and prototyping.

 

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and develop hydraulic system components to meet performance and reliability requirements.
• Select and size hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, manifolds, filters, accumulators, actuators, fittings, hoses, tubing, and related components.
• Perform hydraulic system calculations including pressure, flow, power, velocity, heat generation, pressure drop, and component sizing. Develop hydraulic manifolds, layouts, schematics, and routing diagrams to meet specifications.
• Adhere to company revision and configuration management process.
• Conduct hydraulic system validation designs and optimize performance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to support production and ensure design for manufacturability.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards
• Follow company quality and safety standards
• Lead or contribute to research and development initiatives, including prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting new concepts.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and drawings.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
• Support new product introduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to address technical challenges and support business objectives.
• Proved technical leadership and mentoring to junior and mid-level engineers and technicians
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Competencies

• Must be a U.S. citizen and meet any other federal program requirements.
• Ability to obtain a CAC Card; Secret clearance a plus.
• Strong proficiency in engineering software tools, such as Creo, Creo-Piping, Windchill
• Experience sizing and selecting hydraulic pumps, valves, motors, actuators, filtration systems, and other fluid power components.
• Experience reading and developing hydraulic schematics.
• Experience with hydraulic testing and system commissioning.
• Experience with high-pressure hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of SAE, ISO, ASME, NFPA, MIL-SPEC, or other applicable hydraulic/fluid-power standards.
• Ability to use shop/prototyping equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic issues
• Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
• Strong hands-on prototyping skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and analyze design issues both in prototyping and production environments.
• Ability to travel to customer sites to support technical training, demos, troubleshooting, and/or product support
• Experience designing mobile, aerospace, defense, ground-support, industrial, or other high-performance hydraulic systems a plus

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Fluid Power Engineering, or a related field is required.
• Will consider non-degreed, if relevant work experience acceptable to meet job qualifications
• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience with hydraulic or fluid power systems, with a focus on design, development, or manufacturing of high-pressure hydraulic systems.

Physical Requirements

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and reach with hands and arms
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus
• Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
• Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and working in R&D lab building prototypes utilizing an array of different mechanical and electrical tools.
