Product and Business Development Lead

Some of the best product ideas start with a utility crew saying, “There has to be a better way to do this.” This role is about finding out whether there is—and helping build it.

EDM is looking for a Product and Business Development Lead who understands electric utility transmission and distribution work and enjoys turning field problems into practical products. You’ll work with customers, technical teams, and the Products team to identify opportunities, test ideas, improve existing offerings, and guide promising developments into production.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can move between a customer conversation, a product requirement, a prototype review, and a production handoff—and keep the purpose of the work clear throughout.

What you’ll work on

• Talk with utility customers and observe how products perform in the field to identify unmet needs and opportunities for improvement.
• Evaluate new product concepts and applications for existing products, including their technical feasibility and commercial potential.
• Define requirements, scope, costs, testing plans, and success criteria with internal teams, contractors, and customers.
• Guide product development from concept and prototype through validation, documentation, and production handoff.
• Demonstrate prototypes, gather candid feedback, and use what you learn to refine the product.
• Help develop customer relationships, sales channels, and market opportunities for EDM’s Products Sector.
• Improve the processes and tools that support product development, customer information, and day-to-day operations.

What you’ll bring

• At least six years of experience with electric utility transmission and distribution systems.
• At least six years of experience across product management, product development, R&D, technical customer engagement, operations, or related work. Experience across several of these areas is welcome.
• The ability to understand a field challenge, ask useful technical questions, and turn what you learn into clear requirements and decisions.
• Sound judgment about what is worth building, how to test it, and when an idea is ready to move forward.
• Comfort working with customers and bringing people from different disciplines together to solve a problem.
• A technical bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Experience with prototyping, testing equipment, CAD, fabrication, CRM systems, cost analysis, or Lean process improvement would be helpful. You don’t need to have spent your career behind the same job title to bring the right experience.

The position requires travel, occasional flexible hours, and quarterly time at EDM’s Loveland office. Customer visits may include substations and other outdoor utility environments.
