Job Overview This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an “at-will” relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee. PLEASE NOTE: An “Enrollee” is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An “Enrollee” is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions. Hours 28 hours/week Duties Support the Probate Hearings Division Administrative Law Judges (ALJ) and Indian Probate Judges (IPJ) for in-person or virtual hearings. Apply specialized rules of practice, manage case docket, and monitor case status via control system. Act as duly appointed master under supervision of ALJs and IPJs in Indian Probate cases: administer oaths and affirmations, conduct on‑record evidentiary hearings. (40%) Address motions regarding pleadings: consider testimony, admissibility of evidence, and motions involving law and procedure. (20%) Regulate conduct of witnesses, attorneys, and the course of hearings, perform full record development, hear oral arguments, conduct research, draft orders, legal memoranda, and decisions. (20%) Implement modernization efforts including electronic filing and case docket management system. (10%) Independently conduct hearings of less complex nature, ensure orderly process, review determinations on material evidence, credibility, etc., ensuring transparent record for ALJ or IPJ review. (10%) Qualifications Must be 55 years or older. J.D. in LLB also acceptable with minimum additional experience of 15 years in attorney roles. Experience in probate law a plus but not required. Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook. Other Enrollee must maintain active law license. Required Certifications Enrollee must be an active member of the bar, duly licensed and authorized to practice law as an attorney under the laws of any state, territory of the U.S., or the District of Columbia.
