Registered Nurse (RN) Weekends

Responsibilities Registered Nurse (RN) – Weekend – Nights 7pm-7am. Location: South Central Virginia, The Hughes Center. The Hughes Center is a highly-structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 22 with neurodevelopmental disorders. The facility also provides private, community-based educational services. It offers individualized and holistic care for adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a nurturing, family-friendly environment. A multidisciplinary team approach provides comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment (and educational) interventions to increase each youth’s functional independence. The team also manages medical conditions and challenging behaviors associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, challenges residents to adapt learned skills to new environments, and maintains functional use of these skills when residents return to home or community settings. Schedule: Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 7pm-7am. The RN is responsible for: Planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care on the assigned unit for residents ages 10-22. Ensuring nursing services are provided in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care and the Interdisciplinary Plan of Treatment. Monitoring, reporting, and documenting residents’ behavior and physiological status. Administering medications and performing treatments/procedures. Guiding the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or who may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the nurse manager and physician. Current CPR or BLS certification preferred (can renew during New Employee Orientation). Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire. Ability to successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De‑escalation Crisis Intervention Training. Ability to use and supervise Handle With Care (HWC) techniques. Reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and be supportive of the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives. Effectively communicate verbally and via written documentation.
