Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse (RN)

The UCSF-John Muir Health Berkeley Outpatient Center offers convenient primary, specialty and outpatient surgical care in the East Bay. Urgent care, lab tests and imaging services are also available on-site. We are a collaboration between John Muir Health and UCSF Health. Doctors from both institutions work together to provide the best possible care. The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 200,000 outpatient visits, 900 non-physician FTEs, and over 125 faculty. Responsibilities

The Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) delivers direct patient care to an assigned adult infusion outpatient population. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer and non cancer disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization.

Key Responsibilities

(To be completed by Supervisor) 100% Yes Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the Manager for overall work performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Two years of recent RN adult clinical Oncology nursing experience
• Two years experience of chemotherapy/ biotherapy administration in the last five years
• Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
• Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
• Current Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification
• Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, etc
• Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position
• Demonstrates evidence of basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of complex patients such as oncology and a high degree of attention to detail
• Demonstrates observational skills and the ability to set priorities; ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure
• Demonstrates effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, team work, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management
• Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff; contributes to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings; contributes to positive morale, using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills
• Demonstrates ability to remain current in professional and technical knowledge and apply this to the job; looks for opportunities for continual improvement in patient care, the work environment, and a commitment to lifelong learning in the field of nursing
• Ablilty to function under stress and with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to delegate tasks in a style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork, seeking assistance as needed; ability to demonstrate leadership experience that support teamwork, professionalism, high quality patient experience, evidence based clinical practice, or other relevant topics
• The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications

• OCN Certification
• Experience administering chemotherapy/biotherapy
• Membership in professional organizations

License/Certifications

• Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
